tried

31 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.
10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
36 My desire desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.
10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
19 Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
3 But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

In the ancient world there was no banking system as we know ittoday, and no paper money. All money was made from metal, heateduntil liquid, poured into moulds and allowed to cool. When the coinswere cooled, it was necessary to smooth off the uneven edges. Thecoins were comparatively soft and of course many people shaved themclosely. In one century, more than eighty laws were passed inAthens, to stop the practice of shaving down the coins then incirculation. But some money changers were men of integrity, whowould accept no counterfeit money. They were men of honour who putonly genuine full weighted money into circulation. Such men werecalled "dokimos" or "approved". Donald Barnhouse
