wherefore

8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: thee: it is better for thee to enter into into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
34 Wherefore, Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.
7 Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
27 He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will will ye also be his disciples?
3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
3 Especially because I know thee to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently.
32 Some therefore therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.
38 Wherefore Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.
30 On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.
28 And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:
26 He hoped also also also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
26 Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.
12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
24 Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
18 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once once and again; but Satan hindered us.
11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
11 Wherefore Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:
1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall shall never fall: fall:
12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
10 Wherefore, Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.

"For" (as used in Acts 2:38 "for the forgiveness...") could have twomeanings. If you saw a poster saying "Jesse James wanted forrobbery", "for" could mean Jesse is wanted so he can commit arobbery, or is wanted because he has committed a robbery. The latersense is the correct one. So too in this passage, the word "for"signifies an action in the past. Otherwise, it would violate theentire tenor of the NT teaching on salvation by grace and not by works.
